Print Circle 19
Over time, circles have come and gone and the name, C19, resulted from the merger of C10 and C9 (10 + 9). Other circle members have merged with us since, which has kept C19 viable and, indeed, our folios now number over 870.
C19 is one of PPC’s two dedicated mono print circles, circulating pouches by post. Print folder sizes increased recently to A5, so that is now the maximum print size. Images are stuck into the folders and are sent out monthly as a folio of images for circle members to critique and score. The top three scoring images are retained and go forward to the Founder’s Cup, PPC’s inter-circle competition. There is also a Certificate for the Circle member with the highest average score over the twelve rounds that constitute the Circle “year”. The Circle has always had a reasonably open approach as to what is acceptable for a mono circle; “if you could do it in the darkroom..” was the guidance when I joined, and that seems to allow more than enough latitude even for the digital age! All genres of photography are welcome and members are free produce their own prints or have them trade processed. The Circle Notebook has always been a central feature of the pouch, a place for members to communicate directly, share news, views and even occasionally discuss photography! The old paper notebook has long since given to way to a USB stick, but the conversations still bring circle members together. Roger Edwardes Circle Secretary |
