The Founder's Cup Competition - prints - the judge's comments
Thank you for inviting me to judge the PPC Founders Cup Competition - it has been a privilege and a pleasure to spend some time with the 216 prints.
It was clear from the outset that the overall standard was high. There was a very wide range of subjects (as might be expected with over two hundred prints), and I was particularly pleased to see that monochrome was so well represented. I sensed, throughout the entry as a whole, a tremendous enthusiasm for photography, and a willingness to try “something different”, or a new approach to a familiar subject.
The task of deciding upon the award winners, and Certificates of Merit, was not without difficulty. In some instances there was only a very narrow margin between the successful prints and those that just missed out. There were a few excellent images, for instance, that may have had something towards the edge of the image area which, in my view, distracted slightly from the main subject. A very minor point, but when choices are difficult, it sometimes comes
nto consideration.
Competition for the main awards was closely contested, and I also felt that the overall
standard justified using the full quota of Certificates of Merit. Congratulations to all award winners, and my thanks and best wishes to all members of the Postal Photographic Club.
