The Postal Photographic Club: Competitions

    T.E. Entry Information


Eligible prints / slides:

Full members are eligible to submit 6 prints (colour, black and white or a mixture) and / or 6 slides per circle membership. Thus, a member belonging to 2 circles may submit 12 prints and / or 12 slides. Entries will not be accepted from Associate Members. Prints which have been hung become ineligible for entry in future years. However, prints which have been retained or rejected may be re-submitted.

Entry requirements:

No charge for entry or return postage.
Entry to be submitted in reusable packaging.
Each entry to be accompanied by the entry slip, fully completed, which will have been published in the Spring edition of 'Photo News'.
Each print to be a maximum of 7" x 5" mounted on a 7" x 5" mount.

Each print / slide to bear on reverse / mount:

Name and address of member;
Circle on behalf of which points are to be credited;
Title of print / slide

Judged by:

An independent judge, usually ARPS / FRPS or equivalent.

Awards made - Prints:

'The Ellis Martin Cup' - awarded to the circle achieving the highest average score. Points are awarded to each print submitted (see below), the total being divided by the active circle membership* (not merely those taking part) to determine the average.
(*) as at June 1st.

'The Half Plate Challenge Cup' - awarded to the best print overall.
'The Andrew Emond Trophy' - awarded to the best landscape print.
'The Maurice MacDowell Cup' - awarded to the best colour print.
'The Jack Cowper Tannadice Salver' - awarded to the best monochrome print.
'The Harry Ridgway Cup' - awarded to the best portrait.
'The Scottish Quaich' - awarded to the best photograph depicting action.
'The Singleton Rosebowl' - awarded to the best architectural print.
10 Certificates of Merit.

Awards made - Slides:

'The Dorothy MacDowell Salver' - awarded to the best slide overall.
'The Thomas Langley Trophy' - awarded to the best Natural History slide.

Points awarded:

For Ellis Martin Cup calculations, points are awarded as follows:
For each print entered: 1 point
For each print retained for viewing at the Rally: 4 points
For each print hung in the exhibition: 8 points
For each print awarded a Certificate of Merit: 16 points
For each print awarded a trophy: 24 points

The Travelling Exhibition:

Made up of the trophy winners (7), the winners of Certificates of Merit (10), and a further 63 best prints, 80 in total, plus the 3 trophy winners from that year's Founder's Cup competition and copies of the trophy-winning slides.

The exhibition is displayed at the Rally, before travelling to up to 20 clubs during the course of the year.

A further 40 prints are 'Retained' for viewing at the Rally, but do not form part of the exhibition and do not travel with it.

Notification:

By letter and pro-forma to each entrant and circle secretary. Centre fold produced for Autumn edition of 'Photo News'

Awards made:

Trophies and certificates are presented at the annual Rally.

Prints / slides returned:

In original packaging either at the Rally or to individual entrants by post as soon as possible thereafter.
