The Postal Photographic Club: General

How We Operate |
The Postal Photographic Club is organised into Circles, which comprise 12 - 15 members. Each Circle is in the charge of a Circle Secretary who has considerable freedom of action. Each month circle members produce a print, maximum size 7" x 5" on one of the club's unique 7" x 5" folio mounts, and receive a monthly folio containing prints submitted by the other members of the circle, together with a notebook containing news, views, comments and discussions.

Members comment and vote on all prints, by which means the best three are chosen to go through to the 'Founder's Cup' competition, one of the club's major annual competitions, held each spring. A second major competition, The Travelling Exhibition, is an open competition which gives each member the opportunity to enter 6 prints or slides for judging. Awards are made to the best individuals and circles and for the best prints, and the top 80 prints form The Travelling Exhibition, so called because, following the annual Rally, it begins a circuit of 20 camera clubs, from Orkney in the north to Torbay in the south. |

An annual weekend Rally provides the opportunity for members to meet each other in person. The Travelling Exhibition is displayed before beginning its tour of the country, as are the successful slides. Trophies are presented and the Committee of Circle Secretaries and Officers holds its Annual Meeting. An illustrated magazine, 'Photonews', first published in 1946 under the editorship of Ellis Martin, appears twice a year in Spring and Autumn to keep members in touch with matters outside their immediate circle. Currently edited by David Flitcroft, CPAGB, it contains news for members, results and illustrations of the club's competitions, reports from the circles and articles of general interest. |
