Travelling Exhibition Competition, 2008 - 9
The entry deadline has now passed and the prints are with our judge. The final total was 373 prints, 40 fewer than last year but still a very strong entry. Particular congratulations must go to Circles 1 and 2, which both achieved 100% entry.
Photonews Magazine
The Spring 2008 issue of 'Photonews' marked the last to be edited by David Flitcroft. Under his stewardship we have had some excellent issues, with many interesting features and articles, and I would like to thank David for all his hard work. 'Photonews' is one of the important unifying features of this club of ours, much of whose business is conducted in circles. Bringing the whole membership together in this way was seen as one of the founding principles of the HPPC, and it is vital that we maintain that tradition. If anyone feels that they could co-ordinate the material for this twice-yearly publication, please contact John Kay.
Travelling Exhibition, 2008 - 9
Invitations to clubs to view next year's exhibition went out at Easter and some bookings have now been made, though uptake has been slower than usual this year. There are still a number of 'slots' available so, if you would like me to send one to your club's Programme / Syllabus Secretary, please drop me an e-mail.
If you have received an invitation and have not responded, it would be helpful if you would do so as soon as possible. Remember, word of mouth, backed up by a showing of the Travelling Exhibition, remains the best way to recruit new members to the PPC. Without new members, first your circle and, ultimately, the club will eventually disappear. We have already 'lost' one circle this year!
2008 Annual Rally
Next year's Rally will be held at Harrington House, Bourton-on-the-Water in the Cotswolds. This is another Holiday Fellowship house, details of which can be seen HERE. Again taking place in mid-October, it's sure to be popular, so early booking will be essential. Click HERE to view and print the location map on the HF Holidays website. Please complete and return the booking slip in the recent edition of 'Photonews' ASAP to be sure of a room.
PPC Rally 2007: Thorn's Hall, Sedbergh
. . and what a Rally it turned out to be, surely one of the very best since the weekend rallies began in 1987. The accomodation was superb, comfortable, clean, and well-appointed, yet the character of the building and its lovely gardens was retained; the food was excellent, beautifully prepared and served; and the company was of the best. Old friendships were renewed, conversations picked up after a year's interruption as though it were yesterday, and new friendships made. If the weather on Saturday conspired to put a damper on things, it surely failed. Next year's Rally will be held at another Holiday Fellowship house in Bourton-on-the-Water, but it will have a lot to live up to if it is to match our weekend at Thorn's Hall. Our grateful thanks go to the staff who played such an important part in making the weekend the great success it was and, of course, to John and Jean, for arranging the event with their customary expertise and consideration. Thanks to Bob R and Dorothy, there is a new Gallery of pictures of the venue and the presentations. If anyone would like to send me other pictures they took over the weekend I would be pleased to add them. Go to the 'Gallery' section of the Menu, left, or click HERE and click on the first thumbnail to watch the slideshow.
Competition Judges
One of my major problems as Exhibition Secretary is to find two judges each year for our major competitions. If you have come across a
judge who you think would be up to the job, please e-mail me with details.
Internet Addresses
If you are reading this, you almost certainly have your own e-mail address. Please advise John
Kay so that the list can be kept up-to-date. If you change your address or do not wish to receive website update notifications, please let me know.
