The PPC: A Brief History |
The Postal Photographic Club was, prior to January 2000, known as 'The Half Plate Postal Club', and is a club with a considerable history.
It was founded in 1937 by George A. Slight, founder member of the Photographic Miniature Postal Portfolios and 'father'
of the postal photographic movement of the thirties. Subscription was 5/-!
The extracts below are from an article published in the April 1948 issue of 'Photonews', the club's magazine and re-printed in an article written by the late Denis Wright, ARPS, which appeared in the 50th Anniversary edition of 'Photonews', in October 1987.

It flourished under Slight's vision and energy until, by 1946, it boasted a membership of almost 300.

Since that time circles have been added or amalgamated as membership fluctuations have dictated. At present there are six monochrome circles (circles 1, 2, 3, 6, 8 and 19); two colour print circles, CP1 and CP2; a circle for colour slides; and a digital imaging circle which was formed in April 1999.

The club celebrated its Golden Jubilee in 1987 with a Rally at York University. 2007 marks its Platinum Jubilee. From January 2000, the club's name changed from 'The Half Plate Postal Club' to 'The Postal Photographic Club' to make its purpose more relevant to a modern audience. |
